About the OCTM:
The Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics...
- promotes excellence in teaching mathematics in elementary, middle, junior high and senior high schools and universities;
- invites its members to attend an annual conference planned by its members to be full of workshops and presentations led by state and national leaders in the field of mathematics education;
- provides opportunities for members to meet and get to know their colleagues from around Ohio;
- publishes for its members a journal full of ideas and techniques to use in the mathematics classroom;
- communicates with its members through a newsletter at least three times a year in an effort to keep them aware of what is happening in mathematics education both locally and at the state level;
- provides through its members mathematics contests to challenge the mathematical talents of high school students from throughout the state and presents numerous awards at both the state and local levels;
- encourages the further development of mathematics leadership in its members by sponsoring conferences specifically planned and designed to develop those potentials;
- recognizes the need for local leadership in mathematics education by encouraging the formation of local affiliated organizations, providing financial underwriting for the projects undertaken by the locals, and including local council presidents on its governing board;
- supports mathematics education at the national level by its affiliation with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and by providing NCTM with personnel who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the state organization.
