THEME: OHIO CELEBRATES TEACHING MATHEMATICS
This conference will showcase what teachers and students know and are able to
do in mathematics and mathematics education. The OCTM Conference in
Columbus is certain to honor, inspire, and challenge all of us in the teaching and
learning of mathematics.
Below are suggested types of sessions that align well with our theme. All are
encouraged to find a spot to suit your contribution or create one that will further
enhance our celebration.
TRADING SPACES
We’re looking for pairs of teachers from different grade bands willing to
visit, interact, and reflect on experiences in each other’s classrooms. And
those who dare can actually trade spaces by teaching each other’s classes.
OHIO’S GOT TALENT
Have a student with mathematical talent that you would like to showcase?
In this type of session, teachers will have the opportunity to introduce their
students who will, in turn, present their exceptional work.
SURVIVOR
In the age of technology, we live in a world of haves and have-nots. We’re
looking for mathematics teachers who do it all with very little.
SO, YOU THINK YOU CAN TEACH
Many of you are already teaching in a way that aligns with the “new”
Common Core Standards. Share a task, activity, or lesson that embodies
the spirit of a specific Common Core State Standard.
ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER?
Assemble a team of students who will compete against teachers for
mathematics prowess bragging rights.
EXTREME MAKEOVER – PRESENTATION EDITION
Want to jazz up your lesson? Have a topic you find difficult to teach?
Don’t have the time to make an idea really pop? Bring a lesson that you
feel could benefit from a makeover. (Are you interested in being a
makeover maven?)
TEACHING WITH THE STARS
Mentoring pre-service teachers and coaching experienced teachers is a
rewarding experience for all. If you are part of one of these kinds of teams
share the fruit of your collaborations.
THE VIEW
Topics abound in today’s world of education and many constituencies want
their voices to be heard. Bring together a panel of people who would like
to share the views they hold on a pressing topic.
TECH TV
Want to share some of the latest research, trends, media, uses of
technology or any other news item? Be prepared to spread the news.
