OCTM support for educators, students, and families during the COVID-19 crisis
**Including materials from Virtual Meetups with ODE**

OCTM is incredibly thankful for all Ohio educators, and we want to do all that we can to support our statewide community in these challenging times.
  • We are very pleased to co-host an ongoing series of Virtual Meetups for educators with our ODE mathematics team.  You can access all of the shared materials from the Virtual Meetups at this link.  We will add these as soon as we are able after each meetup.  In this document, you can also see upcoming session topics, with presenters, dates, and times.
  • All information for joining the Virtual Meetups (through Zoom) can be found on this page at the ODE website.
  • We hope that you can find some encouragement and support through our new Distance Learning Groups for K-12 teachers and our daily mathematics conversation starters from March/April that are still accessible on our Twitter account.
  • We will continue to share resources and ideas that we believe may be useful to you.

OCTM loses a treasured leader and friend

On March 12, the Ohio mathematics community suffered a great and sudden loss.  Our friend and colleague, Lynn Aring, passed away after collapsing at a meeting of the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  Lynn has been instrumental in the leadership of GCCTM and OCTM for many years, as well as being active in OEA, and it is hard to imagine these organizations without her.  E-mail tributes have been quickly collecting among those of us who knew her, and both GCCTM and OCTM plan to create some permanent way to honor Lynn in name.  Lynn taught mathematics at Bay Village HS for many years and had also taught chemistry.  Lynn was at several OCTM affiliate events this spring, including in Cincinnati, where the above picture was taken.  She had been planning to drive to Chicago for the NCSM/NCTM conferences.  Lynn will be incredibly missed, and this is once again a reminder to share our appreciation with people whenever we have the opportunity.

As an organization, we are incredibly grateful for the work of those who came before us.  We truly stand on the shoulders of giants.

In honor of those who have come before, we have a series called "They Made a Difference" to highlight educators who have made a difference for YOU in mathematics.  To submit a brief remembrance for this series, write to Jodie Bailey (jodie.bailey@ohioctm.org).  Find this series and other OCTM history at this page on our site.
