President's Welcome

Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics is committed to Engage, Inspire and Empower with Mathematics!

As President, I am honored to represent the amazing group of mathematics educators working to
support Ohio’s mathematics educators.  I could not do this work without Christina Sherman

(Past President) and Kim Yoak (Executive Director), along with

the entire OCTM Board.  Additionally, we need YOUR VOICE

and ENGAGEMENT!  We have worked to increase connections among mathematics educators across our state through

#octmchat and other opportunities.  I was grateful to have the opportunity to meet so many amazing educators at the 2018

Twitter Math Camp in Cleveland! My work with OCTM has led

me to these experiences and I encourage you to explore what

OCTM can offer you!

Over the past 22 years as an Ohio mathematics educator, OCTM has provided me with many connections to grow as a professional.  I started my teaching career as a classroom teacher in Jonathan Alder Schools. Currently, I am an instructional coach in Hilliard Schools working with K-5 teachers and students and an adjunct professor for Otterbein University. Throughout my career, I have served as Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ District Director (Central) and President of the Central Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (COCTM). I have actively participated in the Ohio Department of Education’s Network of Regional Leaders for Mathematics, Model Curriculum, and Content Advisory as well as serving on the Board for Ohio Mathematics Education Leadership Council. I would not be where I am today without the opportunities provided through OCTM!

As you continue to expand your professional connections, I encourage you to explore the opportunities that Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics has to offer.  What events are happening in your area? What contests are available for students?  Who is your OCTM District Director that can help you get connected to other Mathematics educators in your area?  What local affiliates and Ohio’s Math Teachers’ Circles are in your area?  How could you become an active member of Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics?

Mark your calendar for Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ 69th Annual Conference scheduled for October 23-25, 2019 in Sandusky!

Stay connected to Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics through Twitter (@ohioctm), Facebook (@ohioctm), & Instagram (ohioctm)!  Join us for #octmchat on Thursdays from 8:30 pm - 9:00 pm EST.

I would love to hear your ideas about how we can continue to connect with one another!  Please reach out to me at jodie.bailey@ohioctm.org or on Twitter @BaileyJodie!

Thank you for all you do to for our students each and every day!  Working together allows us to continue to grow and provide them with the best experiences possible!

Jodie Bailey, President
