The Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics is committed to Engage, Inspire, and Empower with Mathematics!
It is truly an honor to serve in the role of president of this amazing mathematics education community. Working alongside Heather Wukelich, Past-President, Kim Yoak, Executive Director, and the entire board, I look forward to promoting and supporting ambitious mathematics instruction and authenticity in mathematics learning across the state of Ohio and beyond.
I am thankful to have been welcomed into this community when my family and I arrived in Ohio in August of 2011. Ohio and its teaching community is a vibrant and special place to be because of the passionate people who offer their time and sacrifice for the betterment of the next generation. The kindness, inclusivity, and generosity of OCTM makes Ohio a place for thriving.
One of our strengths is in working together to overcome our most pressing professional challenges. The culmination of this is expressed in many ways, one of which is through teacher-led Lesson Study. During my presidency, I hope to support and encourage each OCTM district to conduct Lesson Studies of their own, to seek solutions for the instructional challenges they face. If your teaching team or district are conducting lesson studies please let me know how I can support you; firstname.lastname@example.org.
OCTM is a vivacious community because its members actively contribute in manifold ways. If you are not already involved, we welcome you to be among us, contribute, and have your voice heard. Please plan to come to our Annual Conference as a way to join professional conversations. In addition to the annual conference, there is our DEI Task Force, Algebra 1 and Geometry 2.0 Learning Communities, and Ins(pi)reUP. Coming in 2023, OCTM will be offering additional events, such as book studies and connector events, to continue the engagement and learning of our members! Check out the Current and Upcoming Activities on our website (https://www.ohioctm.org/) to keep UpToDate!
